Are you ready for the perfect combination of salty and sweet? As soon as my family and I went apple picking a couple weeks ago, I had this idea of putting bacon on top of my apple pie. I wasn’t exactly sure how I was gonna do it, but I just knew the flavor combination would be awesome! I decided to go with a Bacon Streusel topping!
- 5-7 Apples
- Refrigerated Pastry Pie Shell
- 1/2 Cup Sugar
- 3/4 Ground Cinnamon
- 1/3 Cup Sugar
- 3/4 All-Purpose Flour
- 6 Tablespoons of butter
- 3 Thick slices of Bacon chopped into small pieces
The first thing you are going to want to do is peel, core and slice your apple. I prefer to dice the apples into smaller bits, i think it makes the pie more fuller and I easier to eat.
You’ll then want to add the cinnamon and sugar to your apple bowl until well mixed. Once it is mixed and the apples are “juicy” empty the bowl into your pastry shell. Leave about a 1/4 cup of apples for the streusel topping.
Now it’s time to start working on the streusel. Mix the Flour, Butter and Sugar in a bowl and either ‘cut in’ using 2 knives or use your fingers to thoroughly make the struesel.
Once the streusel is formed, add the 1/4 apples and the chopped up bacon to the bowl. Then thoroughly mix until everything is evenly distributed.
Put Streusel over apples and bake at 400 degrees for 35-40 minutes.
